According to the Federal Reserve, appraisal reviews "should find out whether the appraisal or evaluation is well-suited for the transaction, the danger of the transaction, and whether the method by which the collateral valuation is acquired guarantees independence and quality." Moreover, they "must show whether the appraisal or evaluation report is compatible with the letter of engagement, which sets forth the outlook of the appraisal assignment." The Federal Reserve also states that "some institutions reinforce periodic reviews with post-funding surveys of appraisal quality for a number of their higher-risk or large-value dealings as a means to help in addressing valuation complications."
